8 teignbridge Trotters took part in the purple gecko running dead 5km and 10km at haldon forest on Friday evening. Fancy dress was actively encouraged and the Trotters had no worries digging their best Halloween costumes out. Shaz and Paul did the 5km in 40.03 and were 60th&61st out of 126 runners. 84 runners did the 10km which was 2 laps of the same course. Derek Skinner was 1.02.09 16th(1st vet 60) Ruth Johnson 1.22.34 59th Cheryl Dunn 1.36.37 79th Kim bindon 1.36.40 80th vicky hales 1.36.43 81st and Darren Petch 1.44.01 83rd. The course used the cafe side of the forest including the huge hill used in the forest flyer. Great atmosphere and a warm balmy evening of Halloween fun. Nice medal to boot .

Trotters assembled in Tiverton for various distances of Winding Paths’ Grand Canal Canter on Sunday. Ed Hounsell took on the 10k as part of a return to racing and finished in 1:09:30. He was 1st MV70. Tim Synge and Sue Tremlett did the marathon. This consists of two out-and-backs on a very flat course between Tiverton and Sampford Peverell. There was mist hanging over the canal for the first couple of hours until the sun broke through and warmed us all up. Sue had volunteered to sweep the event and finished well inside the cut-off, bringing the last runner home in 6:06:16. Tim settled on a “run two miles, then walk for two minutes” run-walk strategy and came home in 4:37:07, which he was pleased with. Both of these hardnuts will be running again next weekend, Sue at the Cornish Marathon and Tim in the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes, let’s hope they recover quickly!

Chloe & Steve Weeks raced the Tavy 7 on Sunday above Tavistock. The longstanding event is through country lanes on the edge of Dartmoor and attracts a decent standard of club runner. We ran together due to illnesses but it was a great time. Despite not being able to race how we would have liked it was a good race, lovely weather, and a great turnout by all. Our unofficial time is 50:30. Previously we have been haunted by bad luck, 2022 ill, 2023 injured, 2024 injured! Really good weather today though, maybe a little on the hot side which is surprising for October.

Paul and Shaz carried on the dressing up at the Halloween 5 mile race on Exeter Quay. The sun was out and it was well supported. They clocked 46.55 finishing 110 & 111th. There was also a 10 miler which was 2 laps of the canal route out towards countess weir and back.

Coming soon, the Cornish Marathon, a familiar race to many marathoners in the club, and another opportunity for points in the Championship. A scenic circular out and back route which takes runners along the Draynes Valley, through the ‘Poldark’ country of Bodmin Moor, past King Arthur’s legendary Dozmary Pool, Du Maurier’s Jamaica Inn at Bolventor and back along the Fowey Valley, taking in a climb to Foredown between miles 24 and 25, which most runners will remember for a long time....
