Teignbridge Trotter Sue Tremlett took part in her 49th 26.2 miler, the challenging Portland Coastal Marathan on February 11th.
Battle hardened Sue wasn’t fit or trained up but with a place in London in April looming, took on the Portland Bill marathon following the South West Coastal Path.
Starting taking you round the “island” clockwise, before returning anticlockwise.
It’s very hilly and technical, 2 tough quarry sections, and although weather was dry it was really muddy underfoot in several places with sticky slippery areas that were impossible to run - and a job to stay upright!
Sue felt it was quite windy, although not as bad as other Gale Force times she has successfully completed it (2x full, 2x half). As a veteran of the running route, the worst part Sue faced was the section at 10.5 miles, an out and back along the side of the road (along the spit beside Chesil
Beach) to Portland itself for about 2.5 miles (on tarmac) - then of course same in reverse going back again! Grim - very windy & exposed. A glutton for punishment, Sue successfully completed the race injury free and pleased with another inspiring scenic day out on the BustinSkin event.
