In late March sunshine, Two Trotters made the journey east to Yeovil for the half marathon. A 9am start the morning after the clocks went forward was a bit of a shock to the system but the sunny weather softened the blow. The race was staged by Race Nation Events, with a 10km option also on the menu. The town centre start and finish, coupled with excellent on-course support made for a great race atmosphere. The course takes in a mixture of urban and country roads, passing through the picturesque village of Montecute and offering up a couple of significant inclines before a flat and downhill return to Yeovil. Despite the sunshine there was a stubborn headwind throughout the first half of the course which made progress difficult! Leading the charge for the Trotters was James Long in 24th place, running 1:21.24, followed soon after by Ewan Walton (after last weeks Feighan Fury) in 48th, grinding out 1:27.06.
Winding Paths staged The Total Coastal, with a choice of distances. Ruth Johnson reported from the Ultra "The race started in glorious sunshine at 7.45am from Kingswear. The first 9 miles was pretty hard going due to the heat and the never ending climbs on the coast path to Berry Head. It thankfully clouded over a little, with continuing spectacular views along the coast through Paignton and Torquay. The coast path and some surrounding areas were closed around Meadfoot Beach because of a suspected bomb for some of the ultra racers and we had to navigate our way around the side streets and back onto the route, continuing onto Babbacombe.
The next six miles to Shaldon were gruelling with endless steps up and down to various beaches, which seemed much harder than last time, due to them being repaired recently! Another great event from Winding Paths with great aid stations and marshals. 116 finished after 7000ft of ascent. Kris Ward finished 8th 6.09.34, and Ruth Johnson 85th. 8.38.13
In the half marathon, from Paignton several Trotters took part facing 3000ft of ascent, results were Kate Heaton 29th 2.46.29, Olivia Miles 30th 2.48.39, Jayden Taylor 40th 3.01.42, Allen Taylor 41st 3.01.46, Robert Faulker 46th 3.08.37, Callum Price 55th 3.13.31.
In the 10K on the brutal but brilliant Babbacombe to Shaldon section, Laura Holland came 3rd overall and was a fine 2nd female finisher. Guy Jary came 1st overall and was pleased as punch - see photo.
