On Sunday 7th May, Claire Farrar travelled to North Devon to take part in the Bideford 10k.
The race started and finished close to the Bideford Amateur Athletic Club, taking in the views of the Taw and Torridge estuary between Bideford and Instow. The moderately flat course, with two short inclines, headed out on the road to Instow before heading back along the Tarka Trail.
An overcast day greeted the runners on race day. Claire always gives her all, and another battling performance ensued. Her time of 01:17:11 placed Claire 774th. Another fine run.
74 year old Peter Kirby completed a notable landmark by completing his 50th marathon at the Milton Keynes Marathon on Bank Holiday Monday 1st May.
Peter has been plagued with injuries this year and was scheduled to race in London but was forced to withdraw due to family illness. However, Peter managed to secure a late entry eight days later at the Buckinghamshire’s race.
New from 2023, the race location was switched to Campbell Park, a huge event space in the city.
The fast, two lap route took the runners into the picturesque countryside following cycle paths skirting Willen Lake, and on through the original Milton Keynes Village, following the scenic Ouzel Valley all the way to Caldecotte Lake. A circuit of the lake was completed before the route headed back passing through the villages of Woughton-on-the-Green and Woolstone before arriving back to Newlands. This signalled the finish of the first lap.
Peter successfully completed the distance in 04:36:27 to finish 3rd in the MV70-74 and 907th. There were 1389 finishers.
