Winning Return For Jamie

Jamie Barnett returned to winning ways in a Teignbridge Trotters vest in a weekend of high achievement for the club on road and trail.

After a brief sojourn with Newham & Essex Beagles, club record holder Barnett returned to action for his local club and logged a winning double last week. Firstly he won the Run Exe 5k race last Tuesday (3 May) in 15:58 and followed up by taking the Ivybridge 10k on Saturday in 32:43, just six seconds shy of his own club record. There were 548 finishers.

Susanna Goffe is another Trotter now becoming accustomed to the sweet taste of success. She took on the Plym Trail Marathon on Saturday 7 May and came home first lady and fourth overall finisher in 3:43:25. Even organisers came back to do it all again the following day and betrothed Trotters Paul and Shaz Sharples took on the full and half marathon distances.

Paul posted a fine finish of 4:35:31 and the fairer half of the couple 2:31:32 in the half marathon. The biggest event of the weekend however came at the Ottery 10k as 13 Trotters headed East for the latest scoring event in the annual club championship.

The biggest plaudits went to Derek Skinner and Rachel Steele who finished second in the M60 and W45 age groups respectively. Derek clocked 45:04 for 46th overall and Rachel crossed the line in 48:09 for 68th overall and a 34 second personal best.

Other Trotter finishers were Ian Langler (29th, 42:19), Ben Elphick (42nd, 44:28), Gavin Parrott (63rd, 47:21), Tim Synge (79th, 49:07), Sarah Pike (89th, 50:11), Corinne Bright (118th, 53:10), Deborah Hart (128th, 54:18), Eamon Crowe (138th, 54:52) and Jo Griffin (212th, 61:46 unofficial) and Eleanor Taylor (214th, 1:01:56). There were 291 finishers in the provisional results.

For those for whom conventional distances are not simply enough, they took ultra-distance options. Take Natalie Clare and Joe Hornsby who completed the Marlborough Downs Challenge 33 mile ultra on Saturday in 6hours 4mins. Plus, Karen O’Brien who was a lone Trotter soldier at the OX 50 mile in Dorset on Saturday, following up with the 10k on Sunday to complete the Ox Epic Challenge event.

Top running all!
