Torrential rain could not dampen spirits at the Sibelco Templer Ten race on Sunday. The Teignbridge Trotters organised event returned to the calendar for the first time since 2019 and runners were faced with a drenched course setting out from Stover School.
But it didn’t stop Axe Valley Runners, who claimed a 1-2-3 at the head of the race. Terry Emmett pulled to win in 60:40, closely followed by club mates Matt Clist in 61:07 and Joel Seward in 62:07. In the women’s race, Carla Tunnicliffe (Plymstock Road Runners) was the leading lady in 71:57, placing 23rd overall.
The next female was Ellie Dominey (Axe Valley Runners) in 72:36 in 27th overall followed by Mel Brooks (unattached) in 73:09 in 30th overall. In the team events, Axe Valley enjoyed more success with their A quartet winning the men’s event and their B quartet finishing third, they sandwiched South West Road Runners who were second.
In the ladies class, South West Road Runners prevailed ahead of Torbay AAC and South Devon AC. Along with an army of hardy marshals, nine Trotters braved the elements to complete the multi-terrain course.
They were led by Sam Barnes (78:50, 43rd). Other finishers were Rich Pratt (78:56, 44th), Derek Skinner (79:15, 47th), John Holland (86:22, 61st), Robert Faulkner (87:16, 64th), James Taylor (87:40, 66th), Steven Major (94:15, 78th), Stephanie Ross (1:45:03, 54th) and Sarah Blanchard (1:55:26, 72nd). There were 182 finishers overall.
