Natalie Clare took part in The Dartmoor in a Day Ultra 50km organised by Climb South West on Saturday 10th September. Natalie completed the City 2 Sea Marathon only 6 days prior, so her performance was even more remarkable.
The route started at Okehampton and passed through Postbridge before finishing at the Ivybridge Rugby Club. Highlights along the way included the East Okemont Valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart stepping stones, Ryders Hill, a clapper bridge over the Upper Avon River, the Dartmoor Volcano, and stunning views across the Erme Valley towards the sea. The course was almost entirely off road, leading to some treacherous underfoot conditions. There were leaders on hand to act as mobile marshals and to assist with route choice between checkpoints. There were aid stations positioned at Postbridge and Combestone Tor.
Weather conditions were just about perfect for the challenge ahead.
Natalie completed the stern test in a great time of 06:05:00 to finish in 6th place overall and the 1st female finisher. Natalie won a very nice hat which she will treasure I’m sure!
Natalie has admitted since the race that she now feels completely broken! Time for a rest I would encourage!
