White Star Running hosted The Ox races, located within the Rushmore Estate, Tollard Royal, Salisbury. This was the 6th year that the three day event has been staged within such beautiful surroundings. Each trail race took the runners through forest and woodland with a carpet of bluebells & wild garlic.
To kick the weekend off, a brand new event, The Ox of Two Half’s, took place on Friday 21st May. The marathon was so-named because each half was run in different parts of the estate. The first half was set in the valleys with the wonderful views on show, and the second half was centred around Cranborne Chase woods, with a few quirky tasks for the runners to complete! Each runner had to wear a blue cap and a mask before half way and at the turn around point they had to draw a smiley face of themselves. Then with three miles left a tie was required to be worn. All very random.
Four of the Clubs toughest performers lined up at the start in very blustery conditions. Karen O’Brien completed the tough test in 06:07:00 to finish in 40th position. Karen also won her age category. A great result.
Sharon & Paul Sharples ran together, finishing in 58th and 59th positions in a time of 06:40:10.
Suzie Mills clocked a time of 07:37:00 to finish in 71st place.
On the Saturday, Karen O’Brien dusted herself down and prepared herself for the Ox 50 mile race. Karen was given a tip to use walking poles which proved very effective. The race was 8 laps, the first being 7.6km followed by 7 laps 10.75 kms long. Karen endured some nasty weather to complete the distance in a time of 12:58:04 to finish in 57th place.
Sue Tremlett completed her 27th marathon, while completing 4 laps in the Frolic Solo. Sue finished in 25th spot, posting a time of 05:49:21.
Suzie Mills completed 2 laps, totalling 21.5 kms. Suzie finished 76th in a time of 04:10:21.
