On Wednesday 26th August, Graydon Widdicombe and James Saunders travelled to Exeter to take part in the Turn & Burn 5K.
All the necessary safety precautions were put in place, including race packs containing route details and numbers being posted to each participant. While entering on line, a predicted finish time was required. Each runner was paired with someone of similar pace, and were sent off at one minute intervals starting at 18:45 at Haven Banks.
The fast flat course took the runners along shared foot and cycle paths alongside the River Exe & Exeter Canal.Th e weather conditions were sunny and cool, but with a stiff headwind on the return leg.
Graydon has been training hard during and after the lockdown period, having already clocked over 1000 miles this year!! The training is certainly paying off, as he clocked a great time of 00:19:23 to finish in 35th place. Graydon also set a new PB by a massive 17 seconds.
James also put in an impressive performance, finishing 25th in a personal best time of 00:18:50. This was a 20 second improvement on his previous best set back in Sept 2019.
Both Graydon & James felt that without the tight turn around a cone at halfway and the headwind, their times may well have been quicker?
The event was won by Adam Stokes, clocking a great time of 00:15:18. There were 59 finishers.
The event was superbly organised and future races may well follow this pattern.
