On Sunday 19th August a group of Trotters travelled the short distance to take part in theTorbay 5 Bays Challenge. The start and finish was at the picture post card setting at Broadsands Beach. The course took the runners on an uphill trail to Churston village and then across country which made up the old Churston estate to the outskirts of Brixham. In Brixham, the field passed by the fish market before heading back along the coast path via Oxen Cove, Fishcombe Beach. Winner of the event was Arran Tocknell in a superb time of 42:16. Our first trotter home was Ewan Walton (9, 48:23) a great time on a very tough 10k route. Other finishing positions and times: Melanie Dunn (25, 54:03), Peter Haywood (37, 56:43), Kate Lenthall (67, 63:32), Richard Keatley (112, 75:11), Zilpah Walton (150, 90:31), Sharon Sharples (160, 91:39), Paul Sharples (161,91:39). Kurt Read travelled to Hertfordshire on Sunday morning which mean't an early start on the road. Sharon took part in a marathon in memory of Leila Taylor, who loved running and was an active member of the Garden City Runners and 100 Marathon Club, having completed over 200 marathons!! Some parts of the route were tracks that Leila had trained on. The course comprised of 4 laps, 60% off road and quite undulating. The weather was quite warm and humid, but Sharon still managed a great time of 3:46.
