On Sunday 11th November, the second fixture of the Charles Stanley Westward Cross Country League took place, this time at Newquay. The Cornwall Cross Country Championships took place concurrently, leading to a high class field of athletes from all over the county. Six Teignbridge Trotters travelled down into Cornwall to take part in the event.
Team captain, Wendy Goldthorp, again rallied her troops leading up to the event and on the day, making sure everyone was aware of all the race details. Despite heavy rain the day before, the ground was good underfoot with very little mud to negotiate. The weather was bright and sunny compared to last years event, where the runners had to contend with near gale force conditions!!
In the women's event, 1st place went to Heidi Tregenza representing Cornwall AC posting a time of 19:01. Wendy was first home for the Trotters, finishing 75th in a time of 25:04. A fine captains performance. The other ladies team position and times: Susanna Goffe (96, 26:52), Sue Tremlett (108, 28:02), Hylda Stewart (111, 28:26), Teresa Holmes (128, 37:38). In the senior ladies team event, Teignbridge lie in 27th place with 667 points.There are 66 teams in total. In the Vets category, the woman's team are currently placed 12th out of 41 teams with 348 points
In the men's event, Tim Pratt was the only representative for the Club. Tim ran really strong throughout to finish in 61st place in a great time of 32:42. There were 203 runners. 1st place went to Aaron Richmond from Bideford AC, finishing in a time of 27:39.
