Yeovil Marathon, a Club Championship race, a 44-mile Ultra and Thames Path Potter Marathon

Four Teignbridge Trotters travelled to Yeovil for the marathon, which was held on Sunday 11th June.

Organised by Yeovil Town Road Running Club, the course is a pleasantly undulating 2-lap route, although the rather warm and windy conditions made it tough going in places.

Mandy Wheeler and Neil Pallant had undertaken a marathon 2 weeks ago, whilst Lance Mason and Sally Ingledew completed the Dartmoor Discover only last week. Sally unfortunately felt unwell and stopped at the halfway point. Meanwhile, Lance ran around encouraging Mandy and so both finished in 3:47 (Mandy was 5th lady overall and got a 1st vet 35 prize, and it was Lance’s 101st marathon), and Neil finished in 4:29.

Last week’s Dartmoor Discover winner, Adam Holland, won the race in 2:46 – a little birdie tells me that he hasn’t had a rest day at all since the Dartmoor Discovery.

Richard Keatley completed the Thames Path Potter, which is an 8-lap course along the River Thames. Unfortunately, a closure on the M3 meant that Richard was 1hr35mins late arriving, but the organiser kindly let Richard finish anyway, to make this his 60th marathon. Therefore, Richard’s official time, including the delayed start, was 6:35.

Paul Sharples completed the Cornish Classic, for the second time. The course takes competitors from The Lizard to Lands End - the most southerly point of England to the most westerly point - over 44 miles of Cornish coastal path in the wind and the rain. Just a week after the Dartmoor Discovery, Paul completed the grueling course in 10hrs54min, and he was delighted to go under 11 hours.

10 Teignbridge Trotters travelled to Plymouth for the Plym Valley Challenge, which is billed as “7 country miles”. There were some good performances and Trotter results were Roger Easterbrook (5, 48:22), Craig Churchill (40, 1:00:19), Pete Hayward (48, 1:02:28), Sara Pike (57, 1:04:22), Kathryn Steemson (68, 1:05:53), Jo Randall (76, 1:06:37), Tracey Granger (129, 1:13:56), Sara Collman (167, 1:19:53), Eleanor Taylor (170, 1:21:36) and Tina Caunter (176, 1:22:32). There were 249 finishers.
