Teignbridge Trotters staged the annual Ladies’ 10K, which starts and finishes at the beautiful Dornafield Caravan and Camping site, and this year is the 20th year at the superb venue. In what was Lucy Paynes’s first race as Race Director since returning to the role after a break, the weather was good and the roads dry, with little wind. The scenic course follows undulating rural roads throughout, with little traffic, and passes through local hamlets. And, at the finish of course, there were the legendary Trotter cakes!
From a Trotter perspective, there were some great results and prizes, with Sarah Burningham picking up 3rd FV35 and Hannah Jones claiming 2nd FV40. Other prizes were won by Tracy Elphick (2nd FV45), Jacki Woon (1st FV50), Deb Hart (2nd, FV55) and Eleanor Taylor (3rd FV55).
In addition, there were team prizes for the first ladies team (Tracy Elphick, Melanie Dunn, Hannah Jones and Jacki Woon) and third ladies team (Sarah Pike, Annabelle Evans, Kate Lenthall and Joanna Randall).
There were PBs for Emma Foreman (including an 8-minute course record), Kate Lenthall and Corinne Bright and it was also the first event for many Trotters including Lorraine Kirtland, Clare Atkinson (both who only joined the Trotters about 10 weeks ago), Kay Shillabeer and Vanessa Hurst. Also, it was the first time that Rosey Oakes and Alison Jackson donned a Trotters vest.
Mr Dewhirst, who allows the use of Dornafield as the excellent race location, was presented with a cheque for £382 for his chosen charity, Bowel Cancer UK.
There were 163 finishers, and Trotters results are: Tracy Elphick (5, 45:35), Melanie Dunn (6, 44:51), Jacki Woon (8, 45:04), Hannah Jones (10, 46:22), Sarah Pike (12, 47:28), Annabelle Evans (15, 47:57), Kate Lenthall (16, 48:18), Joanna Randall (17, 48:34), Kathryn Steemson (20, 48:58), Kim Knight (21, 49:23), Sarah Burningham (23, 49:56), Wendy Goldthorp (24, 50:08), Rebecca Harvey (30, 51:43), Clare Youngman (32, 51:59), Lucy Evans (39, 52:40), Mary Goulden (46, 54:05), Kate Williamson (48, 54:16), Emma Ray (49, 54:17), Ruth Johnson (53, 54:37), Corinne Bright (54, 54:58), Deb Hart (55, 55:12), Eleanor Taylor (64, 56:18), Emma Foreman (70, 57:02), Sonja Hughes (76, 58:04), Claire Mills (77, 58:10), Alison Jackson (85, 59:22), Sarah Seymour (89, 60:19), Sharon Sharples (102, 62:46), Abigail Woodward (103, 62:55), Angela Blakesley (105, 63:01), Beverley Dennis (106, 63:02), Julie Webb (109, 64:06), Jo Becker (112, 64:25), Rosey Oakes (117, 65:19), Mahnaz Soufian (123, 66:38), Maggie Anderson (127, 67:00), Teresa Holmes (128, 67:05), Suzie Mills (133, 1:07:45), Jess Whitehouse (134, 1:07:59), Kay Shillabeer (140, 69:42), Louise Stokes (145, 73:01), Clare Atkinson (160, 79:10), Lorraine Kirtland (161, 79:33), Vanessa Hurst (163, 85:51).

Mike Hooper did the Berlin Marathon on Sunday 24th September, finishing in 3:12:54. The weather was cloudy and drizzly throughout, however perfect flat conditions. Although it was not a PB for Mike, he was quite pleased with his time due to only recently coming back from a long layoff due to injury. Louise Gentry and Hattie Man also completed the race, in 3:40:54 and 3:43:59 respectively.

Jim and Emma Donovan crossed the Tamar on Saturday 23 September to take part in the Lanhydrock 10. The multi-terrain race is an 'up and down and around' affair in beautiful countryside complete with tough technical descents and long gradual climbs. It's a very well organised race, with each runner getting a goodie bag at the end. Jim clocked 1:30.39 & Emma lopped 2mins off her course best to finish in 1.44.14.

Garrie Edwards ran the Barnstaple Marathon on Sunday, which was an enjoyable event, well marshalled and supported. Garrie is delighted with his finish time of 3.25.05, taking 12 minutes off his PB.

Richard Keatley travelled up to London to stay with family, then went to Walton on Thames in Surrey for Top Run 2. The event is 8 laps along the river and the weather was nice with a bit of cloud, but no rain. Richard finished in a time of 4:53:02.
Richard then travelled to Milton Keynes to take part in Automobiles, organised by Enigma Running. This was 3 of a three race series - planes, trains & automobiles, and the associated the medals all link up. The route is 7.5 laps around the Caldecotte Lake, and the weather was about 25 degrees so very warm & sunny. Richard’s time was 5:08, and he’s really pleased to complete no 73 & 74.

Last week's report is below
Martin Randall defied all expectations at the Purbeck Marathon by achieving a course PB for the fourth time in a row. The race, which is actually 26.6 miles of coast path with over 3,000ft of climbing, starts and finishes in Swanage and takes in Tyneham village and Corfe Castle. The coast path was particularly slick and footing was tough but Martin was delighted to finish in a time of 3.55.45, attaining 14th place in a field of 300 runners. Official results aren't out yet but he came in around 20th out of 300 runners. He described it as the perfect way to spend one’s wedding anniversary!
Meanwhile another solitary Trotter, Mark Wotton, took part in the Woodbury 10k organised by Exmouth Harriers. The race starts at the village hall in Woodbury and winds its way through leafy country lanes, very undulating following the tough uphill start, and taking in the village of Woodbury Salterton about half way. Mark really enjoyed this great little low key 10k with a free bacon bap at the finish. Among about a 100 runners, Mark finished in 54 minutes.
Much further away, in rural Berkshire, Lucy Payne completed the Swallowfield 10k. Lucy described it as a lovely route with undulating country lanes, striking scenery and, a great benefit to runners, all roads closed to traffic. From a field of 316, Lucy finished in 182nd place, with a very creditable time of 56.07 and in doing so achieved first FV65+.
A posse of five Trotters travelled to Bristol to run the Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon. The course took runners under the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge with spectacular views along the Avon Gorge and Bristol Harbourside before entering the city centre for the closing miles. Conditions were well-nigh perfect, being dry under foot and with light cloud and not too warm. First Trotter home was Scott Green, in 1.35.00, followed by Bon Rymel, 1.50.50, Mike Jones, 1.53.08, Laura Law, 2.04.29 and Rachel Duncan, 2.36.21.
Closer to home four hardy souls braved the rigours of the Pure Trail Dartmoor Volcano race. The 10.25 mile trail race, which starts and finishes in the village of Scorriton, involves almost 500 metres of ascent. It’s not a ‘walk in the park’, but a tough ten plus miles over Dartmoor, visiting the high points of Pupers Hill, Snowdon, and South Dartmoor’s highest point, Ryders Hill. Race day proved to be all the harder on account of the quantity of mud and water on the course, but hearts were raised as the skies began to clear and the stunning scenery came into view. Leading the Trotters home and taking fourth position in a time of 1.26.49, was Tim Pratt, followed by Christian Robinson (58th) 1.53.33, Derek Skinner (70th) 1.58.04 and Kim Nichols (95th) 2.11.03. There were 140 finishers.
