Trotters combat some very hot conditions for racing

In the hottest weekend of the year, Trotters braved some races in the very tough conditions.

Firstly, Trotters took on the Coleton Foot Acher event on Saturday 17^th June, which is a tough, 6-miler including some steep inclines and steps, starting at the National Trust’s house at Coleton Fisacher. The heat was a problem for running, but the spectacular views made up for it in the second running of this event. There were some great Trotter results, with Craig Churchill claiming 1st MV35 whilst Paul Sharples claiming 1st MV60.

Enigma Running held a marathon weekend, around Caldecotte Lake in Milton Keynes - the event was called Clueless. Day 1 was 7-laps clockwise around the lake, whilst Day 2 was anti-clockwise. Enigma have been organising these events for 7-years, and commented it’s by far the hottest conditions they’ve witnessed with temperatures into the mid-30s. With clear skies and very little shade around the lake there was little respite, so runners had to take care and run accordingly, ensuring plenty of sunscreen was worn, and water taken on.

Richard Keatley did Day 1 in 5:38 (his 61st marathon), whilst Graydon Widdicombe did Day 2 in 5:09:58.

Mike Hooper’s son, Toby, ran for Devon in the South West Schools Event at Exeter Arena on Saturday.

The event was the Inter Counties Athletic Championship, which covered the counties of Gloucester and Wiltshire down to Cornwall.

He competed in the Inter Boys 1500m steeplechase coming 5th in a time of 5:04, which was a 14 sec PB for him. Fifteen-year-old Toby did brilliantly as this category was for under-17 boys, so he was competing against boys a year older.
