Several Teignbridge Trotters travelled over the bridge to Cornwall, to take part in the superbly organised Cornish Marathon. East Cornwall Harrier’s stage the event, and runners are treated to a pasty and tea at the finish, which I’m sure is in the mind of many whilst they’re out on the course!
In cool but clear conditions with no wind, Bodmin Moor looked stunning, especially with the views over Colliford Lake. It’s a hilly route, so can be hard to pace as running it evenly is a challenge, but nevertheless Trotters did brilliantly.
Firstly, there was some silverware for our club. Eleanor Taylor claimed 1st FV55 at the event, whilst Sally Ingledew claimed 2nd FV55. Meanwhile, for the men, Lance Mason claimed second V55. Neil Pallant was very happy with his course best of 7 minutes with Allen Taylor managing a course best too, knocking 9 minutes off of his previous time at this event.
Trotters results were:
Lance Mason (25, 3:23:40), Allen Taylor (26, 3:23:40), Martin Randall (87, 3:44:18), Graydon Widdicombe (152, 3:57:50), Paul Sharples Snr (179, 4:06:22), Nathan Elphick (186, 4:09:00), Neil Pallant (190, 4:10:42), Eleanor Taylor (212, 4:16:57), Kevin Sampson (223, 4:21:11), Sally Ingledew (281, 4:35:59). There were 410 finishers.

Richard Keatley travelled to Surrey to run marathons 82 & 83. Saturday was a Charity Marathon, with medal of your choice. This consisted of 8 laps alongside the beautiful river at Walton on Thames. The organisers are Phoenix Running. Richard was also was given some wings, as a token for having completed 10 of their events. Weather was nice until the afternoon & then was cold & rainy, but Richard was pleased with 4:58.
Sunday’s marathon was part 3 of a series to gain a medal at the end, which is a whopping 320mm long. The weather was nice and sunny, but again there was a chill in the air. Richard took it a bit easier, finishing with a time of 5hrs 24 min. This race was a 4-lapped event, on the riverside course.
These were Richard’s 46th and 47th marathons of the calendar year.
