While August continues to do a really good impression of October Trotters have been braving the weird weather conditions to take part in races up and down the rolling hills of Devon and beyond.
The rain held off long enough for Trotters to compete and complete Torbay’s Royal Regatta 10k on Sunday 23 August. It also offered up an opportunity to give Gary Watson a bit of a headache when calculating the points system for the Club Championship. Every cloud!
The distance races along Torquay seafront to Paignton with two laps around Paignton Green before heading back to Corbyn Head for the finish. The race results today show Adam Johnstone led the Blues home clocking 36.46 for 17th overall. Tim Pratt was chasing hard coming 24th in 37.49. Ewan Walton was third Trotter home in 38.28, 28th. Jamie Barnett - who continues to run strong impressive races - was first U20 in 38.42 and 30th. Ladies captain Helen Anthony led the women home for the club clocking 39.28 for first F35 and 41st overall.

*Jimmy Donovan and Graham Penn represented the Royal Blues at the Sticklepath Horseshoe Fell Run on Saturday 15 August. This friendly low-key 9.6-mile moorland race, which starts and finishes in the pretty village from which it takes its name takes in some of the most dramatic, sweeping northern Dartmoor terrain including the near-vertical Cosdon Hill. While the organisers have not yet made the results available, Jim completed it in roughly 1:54 and Graham clocked 2:27.57. There were 29 runners altogether.
*Mark ‘Wurzel’ Wotton, Sally Ingledew and Lance Mason completed the Salisbury 54321 walk or trail run which has distances from a 5k to a more demanding marathon over footpaths, bridleways and country lanes around Salisbury Wessex area on Saturday 15 August. Lance won first V55 with his time of 4:08.48 and 41st overall. Mark was 223rd in 5:57.40 and Sally’s time of 6:24.34 placed her 251st. There were 334 finishers.
*The following day Wurz travelled to Wheathampstead near St Albans for Leila's Run , a marathon set up in memory of 100 Marathon Club runner Leila Taylor. The course is four laps of a 6.2 mile course where Leila used to train. Wurz said: “I started early with some others at 7.30am on country lanes and forest tracks. I struggled with my hamstring all the way but got round in 5:56.00.”
Mark is deep into his goal of running 100 marathons and has just completed two more with the Bad Cow double marathon weekender - details will follow along with his fellow Trotter results when they are made available.
