On Wednesday 20th August, there were three PBs from a small band of Trotters that took part in the Exeter 10K. Starting from Exeter Quay, this 10K follows the same route as the popular First Chance 10K. With the Exeter 10K however, the start/finish areas had been moved, with the start moved back towards the quay and the finish slightly further away, so as to put them in the same place – this allowed for a great spectator area and removed any issues of runners becoming entangled with pedestrians and families on Piazza Terracina, on the quay.
Jamie Barnett, Nigel Barnett and Mark Walker all achieved PB times, with Jamie dipping under the 40-minute mark for the first time.
In testing conditions due to a strong headwind, Tarquin lead the Trotters home in 18th place overall, in a strong field, with a season’s best time of 35:27. Jamie Barnett (PB) was the next Trotter home, with a finishing time of 39:36 (47th). His father was next Trotter, with a personal best time of 46:17 (126th). Super-Vet Peter Kirby was hard on his heels to finish in a time of 46:49 (134th).
Other Trotters were: Donna Walker (52:46, 221), Derek Blackford (53:41, 231) and Mark Walker (61:07 PB, 301), who also achieved a personal best time in only his third race.
