3km to Dublin marathon, a little "Yomp" and a successful Templer 10 makes happy trotters......

On Monday 28th October, Ironbridge running events hosted the first round of their “winter 5km” series at Exeter Arena. The “C” race saw 11.39 from Helen Anthony and 12.18 was run by Mark Becker. The “E” race saw 13.11 ran by Keith Anderson and Jo Becker did 15.19.The next two rounds are on the 11th and 25th November at the track.


Over in Ireland the “Dublin Marathon” was run on their Bank holiday. Six Teignbridge trotters flew over to take part in the prestigious event in the marathon calendar. This was the 34th year of the Dublin Marathon, which is run through the historic Georgian streets of Dublin, Ireland's largest and capital city.
Daryl “Tarquin” Milford had been struggling with injury since the Cardiff half marathon a few weeks ago but decided to run and although not what he had planned he finished in a respectable 3.26.17(1,543). Emma Pearcy was next trotter over the finishing line and pushed hard to take over a minute off her old marathon time to produce 4.04.08 (5,845) chasing down her sub 4 marathon plan.Sally Ingledew knocking out yet another of her favourite marathons was (7,225) 4.17.47. Jessica Parkes ,another trotter who has been struggling with on-going injury for months ran a great race and completed to her delight in 4.23.12(7963).Husband and Wife team Lucy and Rod Payne also ran well with Lucy in 4.42.19(9483) and Rod in his first marathon since major back surgery in 4.54.47(10,500).12,353 competitors finished the course.

Delicious soup and cakes were the rewards for runners completing the “Yarcombe Yomp” race on Saturday 2nd November, in which eleven Teignbridge Trotters took part. The multi-terrain 10 mile race was ably staged by Axe Valley Runners in aid of Yarcombe Village Hall. It involved two laps of a challenging route that was full of variety, including steep grassy fields, forest tracks, a stream and even a dead sheep. There were 48 finishers.
First Trotter home, in ninth place overall, was Travis Wood, in a time of 1.22.30. He was followed by John Tweedie (11th) 1.23.58, Craig Churchill 13th in 1.24.50, Wilfred Taylor (14th) 1.24.55 (first vet 60), Gary Clark (15th) 1.26.27, Jim Donovan (18th) 1.31.19, Keith Anderson (28th) 1.39.27. Leading the ladies home was Ruth Johnson (39th) in 1.45.06, followed by Eleanor Taylor, (43rd) in 1.51.39 (first female vet 50) and Jo Becker (44th) 1.53.41. Mark Becker had to pull up through injury.(thanks Keith)


On Sunday 3rd November the Teignbridge trotters hosted another successful “Templer 10” race held at the Passage House Inn near Kingsteignton.The race takes in roads and the foot paths alongside the river and on the Templer Way, into Stover Park and back out again retracing the way to the Passage House Inn .210 runners enjoyed the scenic run although it was rather slippery under foot on the tracks. Many of the trotters gave up their time to marshal and help at the race so only six trotter ladies ran it.
Donna Walker brought them home in 1.25.18(149th), Sharon Hutchins 1.29.18(174th), Cathleen Pilton 1.30.59(181st),Stella Imong 1.31.58(182nd),Katrina Zaple 1.38.57(199th) and Heather Snow 1.43.24(206th).


Also on Sunday, two weeks after running the Abingdon Marathon, Peter Kirby was up in North Devon to run the "Bideford 10 mile" race. Peter completed the course in 1.17.23 and was 120th out of 321 finishers. Runners started at the Bideford AAC club house in Bideford & went out by road to Instow & Yelland before turning into strong winds on the Tarka Trail alongside the estuary & back to Bideford.(thanks Peter)

Derek Blackford and Maggi Anderson did the “Plymouth Get Up and Go 10K”, sponsored by Mansbridge and Balment, on Sunday. Starting by the Guildhall in Plymouth , the race followed a flattish out-and-back route along Embankment road beside the Plym estuary. 1492 runners completed the course which was run under sunny yet cool conditions Derek Blackford came home in 52.14 (539th) and Maggie Anderson in 59.27 (990th), achieving a personal best time.
