This weekend was some what quieter than the last few weeks for the Trotters. Steve Wallace and Steve Rawlinson went down to Cornwall to run the "Treggy 7" which starts in Launceston town centre and finishes at the Castle. 357 runners took on the challenge. It was a very nice course, traffic free until the last mile, with a very impressive climb after 2 miles. Steve Wallace finishing time was 1.03.46 for 236th place and Steve Rawlinson posted 1.06.17 in 261st.
Adam Caunter travelled to North Devon at the weekend to compete in the notoriously hilly "Ilfracombe Triathlon" amongst 188 other Triathletes. Consisting of a 400m sea swim which was pretty choppy, a tough 25K bike ride and a final testing 6K run, Adam finished in a time of 1hr 26mins 1sec and in an amazing 6th place overall just two minutes behind the race winner. This also placed Adam as 1st Junior comfortably beating his nearest rival. Meanwhile, his Dad, Gary, was in Somerset taking on the Midsomer Norton Sprint Triathlon. A somewhat easier 400m pool swim, although the 25k bike was fairly hilly, finishing off with a 2 lap multi-terrain 5K-ish run. Gary finished 44th out of 159 competitors in a time of 1hr 30mins and 17secs, placing him 6th in his MV45 category.
Helen Anthony travelled to Dorset to run the “Beast” which was a scenic multi terrain half marathon event starting at Corfe Castle, across Corfe common then out to the coast path, up and down coast path steps until you came back inland to castle. The first half was a bottle neck so unless you started at the front it was slow going. Helen posted a time of 2.03.
Graeme Baker went to Saltram House near Plymouth to run the “Saltram 10K”on Saturday evening. Thanks to a flood, the race was extended to 10.5K. It was a multi terrain run that follows the edge of the estate and takes in the highest and lowest points twice, so quite hilly. Graeme managed 58.18.
Chris Rogers took himself to the first “Bridgwater Half Marathon” It was his second half and was aiming to run inside 2 hours (PB from first one was 2:02:30) but messed up his pace at the start and went a bit quick, so crossed the line at around 2:08:00. Around 200 runners started and finished at Bridgwater & Albion RFC. The course has really good potential for a PB with it being very flat, taking you out of Bridgwater, on a bridge over the M5 and out through the countryside villages of Chedzoy, Stawell and Sutton Mallet. The weather was a bit humid, but very cloudy.
Geoff Davey did a new race called “Operation Reset”. It was a charity race to help raise funds for “Help the Heroes”. It was a 4 mile woodland trail course over part of the “Drogo 10” route. Geoff was 2nd in a time of 25.15.
