This weekend saw back to back racing once again for the Trotters. On Saturday 28th July the “Cornwood Challenge “was held in Cornwood near Plymouth. 16 Trotters made up the 119 runners that took on the undulating 10km course on a fine evening. There was also some mystery surrounding the "pink" tree seen along the course with some Trotters not even seeing it!
Jack Baker showing more of his talent ran himself into 3rd place with a fantastic 36.53. Tarquin Milford ran hard and gained 5th place in 37.56. Lance Mason who is on a roll at the moment came in 7th and won 1st male vet prize in 38.48. These 3 men picked up the team prize. Chris Cleave was 14th in 42.26 with Gary Clark in 17th in 42.41. Travis Wood was 20th in 43.12. Carrie Anne Hewings was the first Trotter lady to finish in 45.54 and also won 2nd lady overall. The other Trotters came in as follows: Chris Wride 48.34, Sue Hewings 48.46 picking up 2nd vet lady, Mark Wotton 49.59, Jimmy Donovan 53.32, Caroline Clark 54.34, Rod Payne 54.48, Lucy Payne 56.38, Guy Roberts 1.02.08, and Catherine Barns 1.02.57. On the Sunday morning 17 Teignbridge Trotters travelled to Yelverton to take part in the "6 Moor Miles" moorland race organised by Plymouth Harriers. The course covers a distance of around 6.5 miles and a torrential downpour just after the start made the undulating course very slippery in places particularly for those running in road shoes.
Lance Mason was the first Trotter to complete in 11th place overall and first V50 in 42.07. He was one of several Trotters in the race who had competed in the Cornwood 10k Challenge the previous evening. Another, Gary Clark was next back in 30th place in 45.37 followed by Dan Wride 39th in 47.02. Wilf Taylor was 45th in a fine 47.51 that earned him 1st V60 prize. Chris Wride was 84th in 53.07, Craig Churchill 88th in 54.20 and Dave Dunn was 115th in 56.41. Stephen Wallace was 140th in 59.53 pursued by our 1st Trotter lady Jess Whitehouse 144th in 1.00.12, followed in close proximity by Katrina Duignan 145th in 1.00.18. Rod Payne was next 150th in 1.01.03 then V50 lady Eleanor Taylor, who not to be outdone by husband Wilf, also claimed first prize in her age category and was 159th in 1.01.53. Lucy Payne ran a pleasing 1.03.20 for 168th place followed by Caroline Clark, not a fan of off-road racing but satisfied with her 172nd place in 1.03.40. The lightly raced Steve Rawlinson was 187th in 1.04.50 with Sarah Seymour 212th in 1.07.46. Also pleased with her outing was Jo Billyard, finishing 231st out of 241 finishers in 1.12.00.
