Trio of Trotters take up the Challenge
Yet another quiet weekend again as far as running was concerned. Daryl "tarquin"Milford, Steve Rawlinson and Steve Wallace took up the 10 mile "Axmouth Challenge" organised by the Axe Valley Runners on Sunday 9th January. This is a tough 10 mile multi-terrain race, which includes two 2 mile hill climbs and some tricky off-road sections. One part of the course took the runners down a steep field, which was slippery due to ice.
Daryl "Tarquin" Milford battled with two local Axe Valley runners early on, but was unable to stay with them after the first two miles, finishing two minutes behind the leaders in third place with a time of 1:04:18. However, he ran a lonely race, as this was three and a half minutes in front of the nearest other runners.
The "two Steve's", Stephen Wallace and Steve Rawlinson, worked together throughout the race, and finished in 41st and 42nd, with times of 1:32:06 and 1:35:28 respectively. All runners were greeted with a spread of soup and cakes in the village hall after the race. The race was organized to raise funds for the village hall.
Down in Plympton on Sunday, at the Coypool park and ride site , the Annual January Jaunt race attracted a few Trotters. It is organised by the Plymouth Round table and all monies raised goes to local charities. It takes runners through Saltram path on tracks and roads.
Garry Smart was 4th in a strong time of 38.16 getting 1st vet over 45 with Vaughn Lindsey chasing him with 6th place in 39.14. Running his first race for the Trotters in his brand new Trotters vest was Steve Barker, who did us proud and ran 41:37 and gained 17th place. Richard Varley was next trotter home in 46.16,57th place. Then it was the turn of trottette lady Tina Caunter in 54.30,141st and followed by Stella Imong in 59.15 was 172nd out of the 228 runners.
