On Sunday 4th September four Trotters went down to Cornwall to run the “Treggy 7” .Bruce Campbell did 50:34 and 82nd, Stephen Wallace 63:46 in 252nd, Steve Rawlinson 64:39 came 264th and Chris Rogers 65:09 in 275th.375 runners also took up the challenge. It’s a major fixture in the Cornish grand prix series and had ideal weather conditions. It starts in the town centre, heading out via country lanes towards Tregadillett (locally named "Treggy") at farthest point of the circular route, approaching the village via a long steep climb. The second half favoured roads and downhill sections before looping around Launceston town centre again, arriving at the finish inside the ruins of Launceston Castle. It was well organised and marshalled, with a nice goody bag containing different chocolates. (Thanks Steve R for the report)
Up at Princetown, by the Plume of Feathers, in the heart of Dartmoor, 6 trotters gave the “Dartmoor Dash” a go. It was a tough off road event with plenty of testing bogs, steep up and down hills but the finish was downhill! The runners were presented with a heavy metal key ring and Katrina bagged a spot prize of £5 at Iron Bridge Runner. First trotter across the line was Lance Mason and although had a tumble out on the course did 37.37 and gained 7th place.Roger Hales (smokes) was 17th in 40.58 with Wilf Taylor racing behind him in 41.03.Mark Wotton was 33rd in 46.40 and Katrina Duignan was 47th in 51.08 and the trotter line up was completed with El Taylor coming in 54th in a time of 53.18. Sixty Seven runners completed the race.
On Sunday 4th September Rowcroft Hospice did their Charity “sea swim south Devon”.This was the second year they had done it and added an optional 2 mile run after the 1 mile swim .The swim took place in the sea off Teignmouth beach by the pier then for those wishing to do the “Aquathon”, took the 68 participants along Teignmouth Promenade and East Cliff Park finishing just under the Pier on the sand.
Three trotters took part with Ian Woolley gaining a very commendable 12th place in 48.36.Penny Aitchinson did a super 54.12 and placed 25th and Nikki Kennard ran strongly to the finish in 1 hour 04 and gaining 47th place. All the monies raised will be put straight back into the Hospice and was kindly sponsored by South West Water.
