Wavell makes waves at Dawlish

Twenty one Teignbridge Trotters made the short journey to Dawlish Warren on Thursday evening of last week, for the Coastal Dash; an increase of three over the 2009 club attendance. Organised by Dawlish Coasters, the 4 mile event notoriously involves scrambling across nine groynes on the beach, before heading along the promenade wall to Dawlish and back.

Wavell Vigers was on top form and led the royal blues home in a rapid 22:28, 4th overall in a field of 129 finishers. 2nd Trotter, in 5th position was Daryl Milford (23:03), with Roger Hayes, 8th overall in 23:31.

Other Trotters taking up the challenge were: Ewan Walton (23:44), Mark Becker (24:26), Simon Boobyer (24:58), Bruce Campbell (25:54), Gary Watson (26:36), with John Skinner, making a rare appearance and posting an enviable 26:50. He was followed by Roger Hales (27:38), Craig Churchill (28:40), who also ran in the 11th Michelmore`s charity run in Exeter on Tuesday, Sarah Schutte (29:17), Graham Baker (29:40) and Sharon Bowman (30:14).

On Sunday, several Trotters attended the Ruby Run Half Marathon from Holsworthy to Hatherleigh, but unfortunately, the results are unavailable at present.

Meanwhile two further race regulars were flying the flag at the 2nd Plym Valley Challenge. Organised by Instinctive Sports of Plymouth and sponsored by the National Trust, the event is described as: `9 country miles and multi terrain`. Conditions were fine and humid for the 147 competitors completing the course. Stephen Wallace finished in a time of 1:28:51, with Steve Rawlinson in 1:39:58.
