Viva Las Vegas for the Weekes!
The Wellington Monument race was due to take place on Sunday but, once again as last year ,got cancelled due to the severe weather conditions. It marked the 25th anniversary of the event but the race organiser hopes to re-schedule it for late April/early May 2011 with the hope there will be no snow or ice!
On 5th December Angela and Dave Weekes travelled to Las Vegas to take part in the Las Vegas marathon. Starting at 7am and in good weather, the first half is up and down the "strip" with 29,000 runners taking part although some did the half marathon. They were hoping to get a record number of Elvis Look-alikes, but didn't get as many as they hoped. There was also an Elvis look-alike vicar who would marry couples on the run.
There was a band/rock group at every mile and the Volcano at the Mirage and Bellagio Fountain were both working, which was great. The second half was a bit boring and uphill. The medal was typical Las Vegas, very sparkly . Dave (who used to be a Teignbridge Trotter) ran it on his 60th birthday and it was his 50th marathon. Angela completed it in 5hours and 55 minutes.
So that's really all the news this week so can I just take this opportunity to wish you all a healthy and safe Christmas and good running in 2011 from the P&P(press & publicity) Team-Rod and Fizz and Tommo!......ON ON !
