On Sunday, fourteen Teignbridge Trotters attended the inaugural Tavy 13 half marathon. The event was organised by Tavistock AC in aid of the Crowndale Recreation Association`s running track, and started at Tavistock Community College. Conditions were approaching perfection with a clear sky and light breeze.
The almost triangular course, run mainly on quiet roads, also included part of a disused railway line with spectacular views across the town and surrounding countryside from two viaducts. However, runners were faced with a particularly challenging climb to the halfway mark, before a welcome change of pace and gradual descent back towards the college and one lap of the running track.
Dave Tomlin sporting his race number 118 led the team home in a breathtaking time of 1:19:09, 5th overall in a field of 534 finishers and 3rd senior man. He was followed in 7th position by Vaughan Lindsay with another fine time of 1:22:37, becoming 2nd MV45 in the process. Bruce Campbell was also in fine fettle, and passed the post 92nd with an impressive 1:39:29.
Remaining runners were: Noel Fowler (1:44:12), Emma Sidebotham (1:44:39), Nigel Penwarden (1:49:25), Nikki Kennard working her way up the pack to post 1:49:31, Sharon Bowman (1:52:35), Milos Erben 4th MV60 and a creditable 1:55:30, Stephen Wallace with another solid performance (1:56:36), Julia Proctor (1:59:34), Graham Penn (1:59:51), Sally Ingledew (2:04:48) and Steve Rawlinson sprinting to the finish (2:08:46).
