Six more Trotters for Six Moor Miles

On Sunday morning, six Teignbridge Trotters took up the challenge offered by Plymouth Harriers and their 6 Moor Miles race near Yelverton. The one lap course across open moorland on the Maristow Estate, being run in the opposite direction for the first time, raises funds for St Luke`s Hospice in Plymouth.

Roger Hales led the royal blues home, 66th overall in a field of 352 finishers, with an impressive 50:44, shortly to be followed by John Tweedie, 79th in 51:55 and Gia D`Aprano with her time of 54:33. Milos Erben (58:51), Stephen Wallace (1:00:45) and Steve Rawlinson (1:03:28) completed the line up.

On the previous evening, a Trotter duo were in Cornwall for the Tywardreath Trotter near Par. The seven mile multi terrain event is a true village affair, starting and finishing outside the New Inn public house.

Conditions were muddy underfoot on the off road sections, but the fine rain kept the temperature to a manageable level. Mark Wotton was first Trotter to cross the line, 53rd out of 168, in a time of 55:33. He was followed by Graham Penn, 89th in 1:00:43.

Meanwhile lone Trotter Craig Churchill was flying the flag at another Saturday evening race. The Gloucester Half Marathon, starting at Newent Leisure Centre, is described as: `mainly gently undulating, with one or two more challenging inclines`. Craig pulled out all the stops to finish 108th in a field of 209, achieving a personal best time of 1:47:16.
