The Teignbridge Trotters will be affiliating to both governing bodies for the 2008-2009 season, following a unanimous vote at the club's Annual General Meeting on Wednesday (February 20).
The vote came after Chairman Roger Hayes expressed the committee's view that the situation hadn't substantially changed since last July's Extraordinary General Meeting, when club members voted to affiliate to both England Athletics (EA) and the Association of Running Clubs (ARC).
Membership Secretary Dave Dunn explained that the club needed to stay light on its feet by affiliating to both bodies, should the situation change in the coming year and one organisation emerge as a clear favourite.
Dave went on to propose that membership subscriptions should stay at their current levels for 2008-2009. He further proposed that first-claim members wishing to register as EA competing members should pay an additional £5. In 2007-2008, the club absorbed EA's £3 surcharge for competing members. Given the additional cost this year, the committee felt that this was no longer appropriate. Around one-third of the club's runners registered as competing members in 2007-2008.
Dave's motion was passed unanimously.
The meeting then moved on to the election of officers and committee members. For a full list of the new line-up, click here.
