Where do I start? Trotters here, Trotters there, Trotters everywhere! It sure was a busy weekend with a combination of road, mud, hills and even a few dusting off their old jalopy!
Pick of the bunch has to be the irrepressible Dave Tomlin who for the fifth year won the Deviock Bounder. The Ten mile event ran over a tough hilly course was made increasingly difficult by unexpectedly warm conditions, but a strong in-form Dave Tomlin won the event by almost two minutes in a time of 61.30
Not to be outdone was club Chairman Roger Hayes, who in the depths of the Teign Valley romped round an equally hilly Ten mile+ course in the shape of the Teign Valley Toddle. Roger was second overall in 64.23 and first veteran home. The event proved to be a popular draw for a lot of Trotters and other times were Andrew Penney 68.06, Ewan Walton 71.17, Roger Hales 72.02, Ian Langler 72.49, Stewart Dunn 75.11, Mark Becker 75.22, Eyvoll Aston 76.23, Wilf Taylor 76.35, Gary Watson 77.31, John Tweedie 80.59, Stuart Moulson 84.34, Julia Proctor 87.54, El Taylor 90.55, Jimmy Donovan 93.27, Paul Scholfield 97.00 & Jo Becker 99.18
Across the way over in Honiton saw their annual 12k event take place with the club being represented by Graeme Baker 59.15, Stephen Wallace 64.01 & Steve Rawlinson 67.25
All this took its toll on the Clubs Cross Country team who in the initial race of the 2008/09 Winter League were poorly represented at St Austell. Well done to Ronnie Jones, Andy Shakeshaft and John Caunter who made the long journey for the men and to Tina Caunter the sole female representative.
A number of club members decided to combine 2 legs with 2 wheels as they took part in the Devon Duathlon. The local event held at Abbrook in Kingsteignton takes in a 3.7 mile run, 16 mile bike ride, followed by the 3.7 mile run again. First home in a respectable 1.39.22 was Mike Hill, he was followed by Gary Caunter 1.43.33, Mark Wotton 1.47.15 and Vicky Hales 2.26.52
Well done to you all!
