Eighteen Teignbridge Trotters left their mark on the Plymouth Hoe 10 on Sunday (February 17), turning in some fine performances and sending club officials scurrying to the record books to amend two entries.
Sunny, chilly conditions with a windy stretch around the Hoe itself greeted Dave Tomlin as he led the Royal Blues home in 57.46, taking 15th place. Next up was Chris Cleave, whose 1.03.49 reflected a series of strong performances in recent months. Two Teignbridge veterans continued their run of excellent form by getting in amongst the silverware. Peter Cleave flew round the course in 1.04.05 to claim 1st place in the Male Over-50 category. And Bryan Hayes posted a thumping 1.13.53 to bag the 1st Male Over-65 prize.
Bryan's supercharged performance smashed his own MV65 club record for 10 miles by four-and-a-half minutes. For the ladies, Jeanette Howard (1.25.04), stripped over four minutes off Marion Luker's 13-year-old FV50 club best to become a new name in the record books. Topping off a great day's running for the club, Julia Proctor improved on her previous Personal Best by around two minutes, finishing in 1.16.37. And Michelle Willocks-Watts chopped a whopping six minutes off her PB, crossing the line in 1.21.52.
Also running were: John Crocker (1.04.56), Andrew Pepperell (1.05.40), Ewan Walton (1.09.12), Mark Hamling (1.10.24), Eyvoll Aston (1.12.46), Milos Erben (1.21.50), Stephen Wallace (1.24.36), Steve Rawlinson (1.24.41), Sarah Ingham (1.25.03), Anthony Ryan (1.25.51) and Marsha Garrard (1.27.53).
Meanwhile, eight Trotters journeyed to the Quantock Hills in Somerset on Sunday, to take part in the Hestercombe Humdinger, a new race organised by the Running Forever club. The course is a challenging 9.5 miles, with plenty of hills. Roger Hales took advantage of the beautiful, crisp and sunny conditions to lead the Trotters home in 19th place, clocking 1.07.11. Dave Dunn was next, finishing in 1.14.57. Also running were: John Caunter (1.15.13), Mark Wotton (1.17.15), Tina Caunter (1.22.39), Graeme Baker (1.23.09), Vicky Hales (1.38.38) and Debbie Saunders (1.39.58).
