The Teignbridge Trotters were out in force over the weekend, deploying more than 40 runners at two contrasting events.
On Saturday evening, 22 Trotters turned out for the Ivybridge 10K. This bustling scamper through the lanes of the Erme Valley always attracts a large crowd of runners looking for fast times. The balmy conditions made it feel like summer had come early.
Andrew Pepperell led the club home, coming 34th out of 552 finishers with a time of 39.02. He was ably assisted by Chris Cleave (40.00) and Ronnie Jones (40.30). Bryan Hayes won first place in the Male Over-65 category with his time of 45.47. Tracy Elphick (43.46) also got among the silverware, coming 2nd in the Female Over-35 category.
Also running were: Mike Hill (41.02), Gary Watson (41.35), John Tweedie (42.06), John Skinner (42.52), Roger Hales (43.46), Mark Hamling (43.58), Dave Lickman (45.08), Mark Wotton (45.30), Roger Hayes (45.47), Helen O'Malley (48.00), Stuart Moulson (48.21), Gia D'Aprano (49.28), Graeme Baker (50.51), Steve Rawlinson (51.01), Eleanor Taylor (52.11), Georgina Wallis (56.15) and Cindy Brookes (59.25).
The following day, 22 Trotters (including some hardy runners who had raced the previous evening) took part in the Cow Pat Canter at Midsomer Norton in Somerset. The event was the centrepiece of this year's club trip and the runners were accompanied by a coachload of family and friends.
The challenging, off-road course of approximately 10K was made even more difficult by the high temperatures and all participants worked hard for their times. First Trotter home was Dave Tomlin (40.44), who came 5th out of 266 finishers. Roger Hayes was next, in 42.07, and Garry Smart clocked 43.39.
