The Teignbridge Trotters were out and about enjoying the fine weather over the weekend, proving once again that the club has some of the hottest veteran runners in the region. On Sunday (January 27), seven Trotters competed in the Braunton 10. North Devon welcomed them with crisp, sunny weather but also laid on a grinding series of hills.
Undaunted, Mark Hamling led the Trotters home in 1.14.47, securing 62nd place overall. Mark Wotton was next, with a time of 1.17.56. Bryan Hayes deserves special mention for a storming performance, clocking 1.18.15 to take 1st place in the Male Over-60 category. This fine showing also means that he now holds the club's Male Over-65 record at 10 miles. Also running were: Roger Hales (1.18.17), Dave Dunn (1.18.57), Dennis Milstead (1.25.50) and Vicky Hales (1.44.57).
The previous day, John Johnson and Graham Penn travelled to the Isle of Portland in Dorset, to take part in the second stage of the Endurancelife Coastal Half-Marathon. The inspiring course takes in some challenging climbs atop the island's limestone cliffs. John had a great run, finishing in 28th place with a time of 1.55.48. Graham shook off leg cramps at 11 miles to cross the line in 2.05.55.
